The North Shore Roast Beef

When people come to Massachusetts from out of state, they are usually one the hunt for some great seafood due to a long standing reputation. A great hidden secret in Mass, however, is the North shore Roast Beef sandwich. Extremely regional, it can not even be found in Boston. One must travel north into the likes of Revere, Peabody, Salem, and Beverly. Warm Roast beef, served on a toasted bun (ask for a super and it will be an onion flavored roll) with James River BBQ Sauce which is not to be confused with any BBQ sauce you are thinking about. Many ask for a beef with sauce and cheese. Some ask for a three-way which adds mayo to the mix. Definitely worth a try if you are in MA for a stretch of time.  A couple of the best known as of 2024 are:
